Hi! I’m Professor Deanna, and I teach students and athletes how to recognize and overcome anxious and limiting belief sets and put strategies in place to prepare for and successfully navigate school or sport. Whether you are headed to college or university, let’s be real; it can be a scary thing to transition into this whole new world. And being a competitive athlete has its own sets of challenges… you’re not always going to win. But knowing how to plan, prioritize, practice self-care, and perform is life changing…. because what you think about, is often what you become. Mindset Matters.
And oh, by the way, those challenges you worry about can actually be the best things ever because they give you an opportunity to develop your resiliency and build skills.. and you’re gonna need those for where you’re going!
So we don’t pursue those goals or dreams.. and stay miserably stuck where we are… or sometimes, when we do have the courage to go after what we really want, we run into roadblocks or obstacles that send us veering into the weeds and we find ourselves wondering what, if anything, to do next… or if those dreams are even possible.
Well, here are a few things I know for certain:
If you don’t try, the answer is an assured, NO.
If you DO try, you will undoubtedly face challenges.
But here’s the GOOD news.
The challenges are essential.
They are not happening TO you; they are happening FOR you.
Because without them, you wouldn’t build the skills you’ll need to operate in that new space or life or experience you are creating for yourself.
And what I’m here to do is help young people recognize that just because someone else said you couldn’t do something…doesn’t make it true. Because how would they know? Just sayin’.
Hello & Welcome!
I’m Deanna!
I share my academic expertise, lived experiences, and commitment to courageous authentic living with students and athletes (as well as their parents and educators) who worry that their goals or dreams may be out of reach.
I’ve learned that sometimes we find ourselves in that wash of overwhelm, feeling anxious and thinking that what we want isn’t attainable.. the education, the sport result, the career goal is too much to hope for... And sometimes that message is so ingrained in us because someone, somewhere along the way told us that our dreams were unrealistic. So, despite our best efforts, we quietly hold on to that self-doubt and inner critic whispering.. “Nah.. you can’t do that”.
